Selina Berrezueta 809

The article "Darkness Too Visible" by Megan Cox Gurdon wants the reader to know why young adult books aren't appropriate for kids. She thinks young adult books aren't appropriate for kids of 12-18. Because  it has darkness,kidnapping,pederasty,self-harm, and etc.

The article "Darkness Too Visible" by Megan Cox Gurdon wants the reader to know why young adult books aren't appropriate for kids. According to the article, the author says "This is an dialectic purity vs. despoliation, virtue vs. smut but for families with teenagers,it is also everlastingly new" The author used this to make the readers think about how long the debate of effects of young readers reading young adult books. Another example, is some kids will be reading a young adult book and they would get dark images in there heads. What the author is trying to say is some kids will be thinking about all the things they read in young adult books and for parents they don't want them to know about that in their age yet.

The article "Darkness Too Visible" by Megan Cox Gurdon wants the reader to know why young adult books aren't appropriate for kids and how parents think about it. According to the article, a mother that was buying a book for her daughter, but all she saw was appropriate for her daughter. She found books like vampires and suicide. She left empty handed from the school. Another example, is "I don't,as a rule, like to do this on young adults" said a editor. What this means he doesn't like how young adult books are allowed for kids to read.

The article "Darkness Too Visible" by Megan Cox Gurdon wants the reader to know why young adult books aren't appropriate for kids. I have talked about how the author tries to explain why young adult books are not  appropriate for kids . The other thing I talked about is how adults think about young adult books for kids.

Eleanor and Park

Selina  Berrezueta 809

The book Eleanor and Park is about a new girl Eleanor goes to a new school. While time goes by Eleanor and Park met each other, but then they fall in love with each other. They both are worried that they don’t love one or each other. In this essay I will talk about how love, meeting new people, and fitting in could be compared one with other themes.

In the book  “Eleanor and Park” one of the themes is love and meeting new people. Outside if the world when you are meeting new people/person you might find your true love. This is how love and meeting new people are the same. For example, Eleanor is the new girl in school and Park falls in love with her. Then Eleanor fell in love with Park. Another example, Park and Eleanor know that they love each other ,but they don’t believe it to each other.

In the book “Eleanor and Park” the second theme is family problems like alcoholics and abuse. In the real life some families are struggling with abuse and the some members being alcoholics. For example, Eleanor’s family has family problems, because her dad is a alcoholic and drinks almost every night. Another example, Eleanor gets abused by her family.

In the book “Eleanor and Park” the last theme is fitting in and meeting new people. They both the same, because when you go somewhere new you don’t know anyone trying to fir in and meeting new people. For example, when Eleanor was taking the school bus she always worried about people hating on her and not fitting in. She worried about it ,because she was the new kid and mostly people don’t like the new kid.

In the this essay I talked about the book “Eleanor and Park” is about themes about love, family problems, and fitting in by explaining how they could be compared. As you can see, a lot of themes such as alcoholism and abuse, can also be connect to more light hearted themes. Showing how a lot of more happy themes can be united with more darker tones.
